There’s been a lot of conservative support and compassion for the Duggar family after the revelations that Josh Duggar molested several young girls, including his own sisters, while he was a teenager. Mike Huckabee, most prominently, defended the Duggars and railed against the media, with the implication from some being that Christianity is under attack in the backlash to the Duggars.
Fox’s Greg Gutfeld said on The Five today, “There’s a backlash against them because they have a sick son who molested maybe his siblings and was protected by it.”
It bothered him that “sick creeps” can use religious confession as a “way out of heinous activity,” essentially using their faith as a shield.
He wondered if Christian conservatives would be as forgiving “if Josh were a member of CAIR” (the Council on American-Islamic Relations). “If the Duggars,” Gutfeld asked, “weren’t part of a religious team that you belong to, would you be as sympathetic?”
