Benjamin Netanyahu Gives U.N. The Silent Treatment

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently gave a speech to the U.N. and said some interesting things. Also, long silent glares. Ana Kasparian (The Point), John Iadarola (Think Tank), and Ben Mankiewicz (Turner Classic Movies), hosts of the The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below.

“Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu usually uses his annual speech at the United Nations General Assembly to raise the issue of Iran’s nuclear program and the broader challenge of Iranian meddling across the Middle East.

As in past General Assemblies, the bulk of Netanyahu’s speech Thursday was dedicated to the Iranian threat. And as in the past, Netanyahu’s speech included an attention-grabbing rhetorical device.

In the opening half of the speech, Netanyahu cited several instances in which Iranian political and military leaders had threatened Israel with destruction. After accusing the UN of inaction in the face of these threats, Netanyahu stopped talking for 45 seconds and glared at the assembled delegates:…”*

  1. I understand from Benjamin Netanyahu’s perspective, that he cannot and never will support any deal with IRAN. Let’s just keep in mind the lessons learned from the past. The USSR was once our biggest enemy and some argue Russia still is a tremendous threat. Which I agree, but deals with foreign adversaries follow this similar paths of give and take. It’s called compromise!! In the words of Benjamin Franklin, ” IF EVERYONE IS THINKING THE SAME, THEN NO ONE IS THINKING!!

Lets all come to terms with the fact, not everyone is going to be on board with any plan that involves foreign policy. The Iran deal give the U.S. greater control over Iran, and their Nuclear program which is for ELECTRICITY, not bombs. Their Nuclear stockpile of Uranium has been drastically reduced, U.N. inspectors have access to search any suspicious site at any time for any reason. And the Nuclear Option has always been available. Although with God willing that wont be necessary.

We (U.S.) don’t give up anything Militarily speaking in this deal. They (Iran) do: forever banned from Obtaining a Nuclear weapon. Even after some economic sanctions are lifted, the incentive to stay in-line and behave themselves will only grow.

Can you not imagine how it feels for Iranians? People stronger than them will always need a escape-goat enemy. Their land has been a battle ground for Centuries, and even recent decades going back to the Cold War. Their people are drastically under educated, most cannot read or write. What happens when generations cannot read or record History? They create their own stories passed down verbally. That’s a recipe for falsehoods.

Have you ever played the game of Operator in school where every child is lined up and the Teacher whispers something to the first child and is told to relay it quietly to the next and so on? By the end of the line the story has changed and is most often, nothing like the original phrase of the sentence! Imagine that over Centuries or Decades, passed from one generation to the next!!!

  2. My biggest concern with Citizen United is a foreign government like Israel could support enough congressman through PACs to be able to direct how our military is used. Just look at how Israel has Cruz, Graham and Cotton doing a tap dance in their interests. Netanyahu wants the American Military to strike Iran because of threats it receives from them. He made the same request against Iraq several years ago. He even uses the argument that if we don’t strike Iran they will continue to fund groups that oppose Israel. This has nothing to do with the nuclear argument but more ammunition to strike Iran. I give president Obama much credit for not being a blind pawn to Israel’s wishes but is operating our military in the best interests of the United States. I am a supporter for the defense of Israel and Israel knows that if intelligence indicated that Iran had just one nuclear bomb it would be attacked immediately. The fact is they don’t have an operational bomb and there is no rational reason not to continue with diplomacy at this time. The argument I present here is why the other countries are silent on Israel’s call to arms.

    1. Citizen United? Can we keep it on the subject of the United Nations? Citizens United is a foundation, ” tax-exempt non-profit dedicated to informing U.S. citizens about public policy issues related to strong national defense, Constitutionally limited government, free market economics, belief in God and Judeo-Christian values (even though this country is not now nor has it ever been based in Christianity), and the recognition of the family (in the most narrow definition) as the basic social unit of society.”
