Sorry, man.
Sorry that you got to ‘help’ build this nation but that you don’t get to take part in it. That’s flat out got to suck. I guess the good news is that you never really believed the lie of equality. You’ve always known that this country is for a few of us.
Sorry that not not caring is the new caring. I guess that we can at least share that one. Most of us don’t give a shit about each other either. But please, take solace in the fact that some of don’t not care. We’re great like that.
Sorry that the black guy won the election. Really. Most of us that just didn’t not care seriously upped our apathy game when he got in. Some of us bought into ‘Hope and Change’ too and thought that you’d be ‘given’ a better deal. We were all wrong on that one but I see that it touches you a little more than it touches us.
Sorry that it’s not even about you anymore. Hope you had a good ride, it’s over. They, I mean we, have already killed someone else that looks like you. The good news, I guess, for you is that it’s already not about him. It’s about us, our safety, our streets, our businesses, our way of life. The American way of life. The consolation prize is that your family is permitted to cry and grieve and look very, very sad on our TVs. Holy shit don’t dare allow your family to look angry about you getting killed. Ain’t nobody got time for that! Anything less than measured, dignified mourning will be get them labeled as ‘radical’ or as ‘agitators’. Outrage is our game. Remember that.
Lastly, I’m really, really sorry that you were unfortunate enough to be born black in America. Tough bit of luck, that one. If you had been white, your ‘store robbery’ would be called ‘shoplifting’. If you were lucky enough to be born white, you’d be an 18 year old ‘boy’, not an 18 year old ‘man’. White Americans walk on the street all the time without a second glance. It’s pretty awesome. Sorry that you aren’t allowed to ever overreact and not paying a hefty price. White America gets to flip out, talk back, hell we can even take a swing if we want to. White America gets tazered when we get uppity, you guys, not so much.
I guess next time you should try harder to be born white. That would really help you guys out a bunch.
But until you can work that problem out you have my apologies.
