Yemen has been locked in civil wars for close to a decade and for the last few months a rebel group has attempted to overthrow President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, the last democratically elected president in 2012. The rebels, led by Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, had placed Hadi under house arrest in late 2014. Hadi escaped the capital city and set up a temporary government in Aden. Aden has now fallen this week under heavy attacks by rebel fighters. It appears that Hadi and his top military commander are on the run.
The rebellion has been condemned by many world governments and groups, including the United Nations.”
