POLL: Georgia’s new “Slow Poke” law punishes motorists who drive too slowly in the left lane. Are you for or against this?

“Corporal Tracy Webb on Thursday monitored traffic on the Athens Perimeter from an overpass and radioed instructions to Georgia State Patrol troopers posted nearby to pull over certain motorists.

But those drivers were not stopped for speeding.

The problem is that they weren’t driving fast enough.

The traffic stops were conducted under the so-called “slowpoke” law that went into effect July 1.

The intent of the law is to make highways safer by forcing motorists to make way for faster-moving vehicles and reduce the potential for accidents that occur due to road rage, according to Webb, who is based at GSP Troop 32 in Athens.” *

  1. I can’t find the actual poll :(

Anyways if it’s just in the fast lane I completely agree with this law. Know where you are supposed to be driving and stop impeding traffic, that’s why traffic laws exist in the first place.

  2. I think because this law applies just to the “fast lane” and not all lanes of traffic it is a great idea. People should know that the left lane is typically used for passing and for faster drivers, you should get out of the way or not be in that lane at all if you are at or below the speed limit. Slower drivers cause accidents and road rage and should be punished just like speeders and reckless drivers.

  3. Although there are posted speed limits, and they’ll put speed traps in problem areas, flow of traffic is the prevailing rule. Most drivers handbooks will instruct you to yield right to faster traffic. In Germany, not giving way to faster traffic on the Autobon has LONG been a ticketed offense; one of the biggest ones.
