Kim Kardashian VMA Pregnant Fat Shaming Is Disgusting

In The Young Turks on YouTube by Hlarson1 Comment

When women get pregnant they tend to gain weight, but now there is a trend to fat shame women who are expecting. Kim Kardashian experienced this trend after her appearance at MTV’s Video Music Awards. People created memes mocking her size and her outfit. It didn’t stop there as media outlets jumped in on the fun and put those meme’s together for everyone to view. Ana Kasparian (The Point), John Iadarola (Think Tank), Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

Do you think the pregnant fat shaming of Kim Kardashian is fair given her fame? Or should we shame sites like Buzzfeed for promoting this kind of behavior? Let us know in the comments below.

“Kim Kardashian is no stranger to the internet haters who unfortunately cannot get enough of her pregnancy body. After attending last night’s VMA’s in a sophisticatedly sexy dark gold Balmain dress that hugged her curves, the trolls of Reddit began slamming her with fat-shaming comments and disgusting photo comparisons, likening her silhouette to a centaur, Danny DeVito as The Penguin from Batman Returns, and the Dick Butt meme.”

  1. Pregnancy is not a blanket protection from the world. I don’t care if she’s pregnant or not. I don’t feel the need to insult her appearance because I don’t care about that either.

As you said, she makes here living selling her appearance and making every little thing about her life public. If she wasn’t pregnant but gained a little weight, she’d get the same. I don’t think pregnancy is really a significant part of the shaming, though obviously the reason for the weight gain.

As to Anna’s point about the people showing pictures of themselves: why the hell should they do that? They aren’t the ceaselessly self-promoting egomaniacs with millions of dollars, nor do they necessarily think of themselves as superior or better looking. Stop projecting some weird social stigma onto this story that isn’t really there.
