Chrissy Teigen Wants To Free The Nipple

Chrissy Teigan recently posted a semi-nude picture of herself on Instagram. Instagram is not in favor of nudity, including the female nipple. The photo was removed so she reposted an altered version of the picture to make it look like art which Instagram does not have a problem with. John Iadarola and Ana Kasparian (The Point) hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

“When it comes the epic battle that is Instagram vs. The (Female) Nipple, several celebs including Miley Cyrus, Madonna, Scout Willis and Rihanna have come out in favor of the letting the nipple shine on the social media app. (You may remember the #FreeTheNipple campaign that flooded feeds a while back.) And now, Chrissy Teigen has officially waged war on Instagram’s rather ambiguous nudity guidelines.

After posting a topless photo from a spread in W magazine (ironically entitled, “Privacy Settings: The world’s most beautiful — and followed — show a side you won’t see on social media”) which also starred supermodels Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski, Joan Smalls and Lily Aldridge, Instagram overlords deemed the photo inappropriate and swiftly removed it. Teigen responded on Twitter with a daunting warning: “the nipple has been temporarily silenced but she will be back, oh yes, she will be back.”

And back “she” came just a few moments later when Teigen posted three filtered versions of the photo that made it to look like an oil painting, a black and white pencil sketch, and a colored pencil sketch, likely as a response to a loophole in Instagram’s user guidelines, which read that while female nipples are prohibited, “Nudity in photos of paintings and sculptures is OK.” The 29-year-old captioned the filtered photos, “ok what if it’s this classy oil painting,” followed by, “or this pencil sketch,” and “or this colored pencil sketch I just knocked out.”
