One idea Mr. Lear spoke to particularly resonated with me was how lackeys filter information for their bosses. At an earlier point in my life I did presentation design for Fortune 50 companies. Part of that was doing data design, charts and graphs. Between me and the presenters there were middle managers who were afraid of doing anything different. Even though my designs made the information being presented more easily understandable, and better supported the presenter’s message, the middle managers didn’t think the presenters would welcome a new display.
The stupid, thick-headed, MBA’s were so afraid of giving their bosses something different, that they always stopped the innovation without getting it reviewed by their bosses. They knew that the routine method was enough, so no improvement was even considered.
Middle-managers are the most cowardly people on earth. They would rather conform and let humanity die before they consider a new way of doing anything.
