“Cenk Uygur (http://www.twitter.com/cenkuygur) and John Iadaola (https://twitter.com/jiadarola) host of The Young Turks discuss what made Texas Senator and Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz make the change to Country music.

Usually it takes a lot to break someone in power; sleep deprivation, waterboarding, a Kevin Costner movie marathon. But for Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz it would only take on day to ruin his mental fortitude. September 11, 2001. It shook many a strong person to the core however, for Cruz it was all the more devastating as the event caused him to turn to the salutary sorrowful tunes of the Country music genre.”

  1. the great detail as well (intellectually) is that he listened to “classic rock”. I must confess a liking for classic rock, a recent road trip in the states revealed that you can ALWAYS listen to classic rock. Luckily there are other options as well. But anyways, Cruz was listening to bands from the 60’s and the 70’s on September 11, 2001. And he heard them respond from beyond the grave.

  2. The hilarious part is I don’t think Cruz has ever listened to some of the older, as my friends and myself call them REAL country artists messages and political leanings. Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson. He’s entirely in opposition of everything their songs were about.
