Hercules (aka Kevin Sorbo) Chiming In Against Atheists

“God Is Not Dead actor Kevin Sorbo provided one answer to the question he has been asking repeatedly on the film’s DVD promotional tour — “Why are atheists so angry at something they don’t believe in?” — on Christian radio host Rick Wiles’ show Tuesday.

Atheists, he claimed, secretly believe that God exists, and are upset with him because they know he is going to judge them. They are a “small group of people, and they get on Fox or CNN and they rant and they rave,” Sorbo said, “and I pretty much based my character [in God Is Not Dead] off of these guys that I see who are just angry — they’re just filled with anger and hatred.”

“On the one hand,” he continued, “I feel sorry for them, but then I kind of laugh at them. Why would anybody spend so much time ranting and raving about something they don’t believe in?”

After a brief digression about how “the chipping away of religion” has “brought the country down,” Sorbo claimed that “85 or 90 percent of the people in this country” believe in God, and that they’re offended when atheists use the courts to compel Christians to respect the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause.” *

  1. If Sorbo criticizes atheists for getting all worked up about something they don’t believe in then why do some Christians get so worked up about evolution being taught in public schools? (something Christians don’t believe in) the irony!

    Change up:
Atheists have it good in the US when you consider these findings:

There are now 13 countries in the world where the state can execute you for being atheist. Every single one is officially Islamic.

In 13 countries around the world, all of them Muslim, people who openly espouse atheism or reject the official state religion of Islam face execution under the law, according to a detailed study issued on Tuesday.
    . . .
The study, The Freethought Report 2013, was issued by the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU), a global body uniting atheists, agnostics and other religious skeptics, to mark United Nations’ Human Rights Day on Tuesday.
    . . .
A first survey of 60 countries last year showed just seven where death, often by public beheading, is the punishment for either blasphemy or apostasy – renouncing belief or switching to another religion which is also protected under U.N. accords.

But this year’s more comprehensive study showed six more, bringing the full list to Afghanistan, Iran, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritania, Nigeria, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, United Arab Emirates and Yemen.[7]

There are 9 places in the world that still have stoning as a form of legal punishment. Every single one is officially Islamic.

[In addition to Iran] Stoning is also a legal punishment for adultery in Mauritania, a third of Nigeria’s 36 states, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen.[6]

  2. And it can be counterargued that Christians are propagating myths because they’re scared of death, which isn’t entirely true with all Christians, nor can it be dismissed as myth because we honestly don’t know what happens when we die. All Christianity offers is an answer and a hope for both eternal life and perfect justice in a fallen world, while atheism offers a conceit based on lack of knowledge.

  3. You say, “Who is he (Kevin Sorbo)? Why should I care about what he says?” I think Iadorola (sp?) said something similar about Ben Shapiro on a different episode. What kind of comment is that? Why discount their words just because of who they are? Address and comment on their content (good or bad). And if you/we really shouldn’t care what they say because they’re “a nobody”, why are you talking about what they say on your show?
