“Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) defended the use of capital punishment and lethal injections Sunday, after the disastrous execution of Clayton Lockett in Oklahoma on Tuesday renewed a national debate on the practices.

Perry, whose state has put more prisoners to death than any other since 1976, acknowledged that Lockett’s execution was “botched” but stopped short of calling it “inhumane.””* Ana Kasparian, Michael Shure (Al Jazeera America), and Jimmy Dore (The Jimmy Dore Show) break it down on The Young Turks.

    9. Plays a Major Role in Systematic Genocide along with Supporting war crimes such as Rape and Torture of thousands to millions of individuals
    10. Is Adolf Hitler, Pol Pot, Josef Stalin or any other political leader supporting or enforcing policies that would lead to the death of a million or more of their people.

I personally believe that, if proven beyond any doubt, each of these crimes deserves the death penalty, not for vengeance, but for balance. There is nothing humane about the actions of each of these crimes, so there is nothing inhumane about punishing individuals who perpetrate these crimes according to the cost of what they perpetrated. Anything less demeans, devalues and dehumanises the victims of these crimes.

The problem is the procedure, not the punishment. Anybody believing they’re going to rid society of violence is dreaming. life by nature is violent, humans by nature are violent. Disassociating or insulating yourself from it does nothing to remove violence from society. Giving a life sentence to a murderer/mass murderer does nothing but cost life, resentment and money to society.
