Only Christian Victims Of Colorado Shooting Going To Heaven, Says Evangelical Leader

Evangelical Christian leader Jerry Newcombe (of the group Truth In Action) argues that the shooting massacre in a Colorado movie theater during the premiere of Dark Knight Rises “…happened because America has lost its fear of hell…”*. Does anyone really think James Holmes was sent by God? The Young Turks host Cenk Uygur breaks it down. *Read more here from The Huffington Post: www.huffingtonpost.com Follow Us: www.twitter.com twitter.com Support The Young Turks by Subscribing bit.ly Like Us on Facebook: www.fb.com Follow Us on Twitter: twitter.com Find out how to watch The Young Turks on Current by clicking here: www.current.com

Thanks for ‘breaking it down’ for us Cenk! But what about the moronic society in which someone is driven to an act like this because it doesn’t want to believe in a just God? Your ’1 million % sure’ materialistic view of the world does not have any grounds for recognizing that this is a disgustingly wicked act, or that Jerry Newcombe’s statements are moronic & cruel, because the world as you know it (if you take a good creator out of the equation) is a result of a blind act of chance and so nothing matters. This is the evil philosophy that is ultimately behind such an act. The usual round of palliative “hold the the victims in your prayers” though right in expression of profound grief & compassion, does nothing meaningful to rectify the situation because those prayers are only to ‘gods’ that we have invented in our heads. This is the heart of the Gospel that is foolishness to the slick, proud human beings that we all naturally are, and that is why Cenk Uygur distorts the Gospel so completely. Human beings are born rebellious to the very idea of the real & living God having dominion over us, that we invent our own ideas about what God ‘should’ be. Whether these ideas are religious or atheistic they are ALL made up, and this is the heart of sin – that we want left alone to do our own thing & make up our own ‘gods’, thank you very much. This is the reason why James Holmes (& countless before him) hatched a plot to murder people. This is the reason an utterly good God, who is the source of everything good, will let us have what we want after many invitations to taste His grace & mercy, if we choose to keep Him away from us. We will be separated from Him and all things good, for eternity (not just ’til the end of time’). That means all love, joy, peace, pleasure, comfort, friendship, sanity etc etc. This will feel like torment but it will be our own doing. God is not only NOT looking for a reason to blast us to hell but hates the fact that this will happen. But he is just and we do deserve it, that’s why he entered into the human condition and upheld justice at the same time as giving mercy; in the same act on the cross, so that those who ‘get it’ can actually have a relationship with the creator of all things. This seems ’1 million%’ foolishness to those who are perishing (going to die and be separted from Him for eternity) but that’s because of pride: although we are minute little specks we think we know it all. Jerry Newcombe, though maybe lacking overt compassion, was simply trying to use a terrible situation to make us think about our own end and whether we are ready for it, which if it’s true is actually true compassion, and if it isn’t: nothing truly matters.
