Even worse, the Washington Post article was front page of the Business section and above the fold. Below the fold was an apparently unimportant article about Google struggling with the Chinese government over censoring a billion people’s access to information.

Unfortunately, it’s pretty easy. I have a bit of personal experience with this, driven by the same frustrations / curiosity. My fabrication made it into the Washington Post, Informationweek, a live SF Bay area interview, and was syndicated in dozens of other sites and several languages. I didn’t expect it to be this easy : http://wapo.st/NWvMtu.
